Default Which job should i choose for 2nd profession

I'm a warrior, and i'm going to get a second profession, and i would like to know, what profession works better with warrior. I play in nightfall

any would work, i like to use monk for the rebirth and other kind of rez but i also really like ranger so i can use poison weapon

in PvE, anything goes, i usually go for assassin as secondary, cause dash is sweet to use to rush from target to target. But seriously, anything goes.

In nightfall you really dont have far to go before you can change your secondary profession.
Teach your char all secondaries once you have the chance to do so.

Monk is nice for extra healing and smiting
Ranger gives you some nice speed bosts and poison + a pet option
Mesmer is nice for extra interupts and to remove/inflict hexes
Elementalist for extra armor or dmg with the conjure fire/frost/lightning
Necro for extra degen and life stealing + teleporting
Assasin for shadow step and a nice heal skill Feigned Neutrality
Ritualist for weapon spells or cheep spirits like Pain can be good too
Dervish brings nice healing + some melee attacks like Banishing Strike
Paragon for the chants/shouts

In the end youll find that each secondary suits a particular map best and will most likely want to pick up a few skills for all of them.
Remeber that when you use a Hero Skill trainer you also learn those skills

im not understanding something, even if you have a second job you can learn all jobs skills, or some of every job?

You can learn primary and secondary profession skills, but there comes a point in the game where you can trade your secondary profession for another.

If you're just getting started a warrior/monk (Wammo) is probably your best bet. You can get fancy with other secondaries later, after you've learned the game somewhat.

^^ just to clarify, in case the OP doesn't understand, when he said "trade" your secondary, it's not a one time thing either. After you unlock all the other secondaries, you have the freedom to change your secondary, at will, repeatedly.

When you unlock skills for one secondary, they stay unlocked. So, for example, let's say you are W/Mo and have unlocked some healing skills. Then later you change to W/R and unlock some experitise skills. If you switch back to W/Mo later, the skills you unlocked will still be unlocked and available.

But you can only use skills at any given time that are for your primary or secondary profession. But most people who have played the game a while are often switching their secondary depending on what they are going to be working on at that time. So really, for now, what you take won't matter alot in the long run. But it's what you'll be stuck with until you unlock the other secondaries. In that case, I also recommend W/Mo to start, because the Monk healing skills are very useful when you are new and working through the game and learning.

Hi pimba,

Just to add on what the others have said:
  • A character may obtain all skills of both primary and secondary professions; and since you can change secondary professions, your character can obtain each and every skill in the game.
  • Changing secondary professions work like 'unlocking'. Basically, when you change to a new profession, you make a payment of 500g to the Profession Changer NPC and that profession gets unlocked which allows you to swap back and forth freely in towns/outposts. Changing back to an unlocked profession does not incur extra costs and does not pose any threats of losing skills you have obtained on the other unlocked professions. Just keep this in mind, changing secondary professions do not cause you to lose anything, all your skills and even your pet (if you have tamed one) will remain intact.
  • Changing profession allows you to play as the changed profession, skills you can use are still restricted to the current chosen primary/secondary profession.
I'm not a very experienced Warrior but the following might perhaps give you an idea of how each secondary can complement your primary:
  • Elementalist - Most commonly used if you wield a hammer (which you can make use of skills to cause knockdown), has area of effect spells that deal high damage to adjacent foes; one such spell that works well with knockdown is Aftershock. In addition, "Conjure" enchantment spells can add to your normal attacks if you wield a weapon that carries elemental damage (for e.g. Fiery Dragon Sword deals fire damage).
  • Monk - Commonly used by all other professions for its healing abilities. However, a Warrior has limited energy pool and regeneration so it will not be able to make good use of them. Smiting Prayers is an option to improve the offensive abilities of a Warrior's melee attacks but is usually not a prime choice unless you're dealing with undead foes. A good reason to use Monk as secondary is perhaps for ressurection purposes; you'll be given alot of options and these resurrections are castable as long as you have energy to do so (as opposed to Ressurection Signet).
  • Necromancer - Necromancers have many 'touch' skills and these are neither blockable or evadeable; basically a sure hit (unless another skill is preventing the use of "touch" skills.). Necromancer have some health stealing skills which works at melee range ("touch" skills) and also ones that transfer conditions to foes. Tainted Flesh is an elite skill obtainable in Nightfall which you can use to spread disease to any melee attacker engaging you in a fight. For Nightfall-only, you may wanna check out Plague touch and Vile Touch too.
  • Mesmer - I don't have much experience using this as a secondary for Warrior. However, if I ever do use Mesmer secondary, Epidemic is what I'd usually use with Sever Artery and Gash to spread conditions from one foe to its adjacent foes. Another skill, Leech Signet, can interrupt enemy skills and if you manage to interrupt a spell, you get free energy return.
  • Ranger - For a Warrior, this secondary is perhaps most obviously useful for Apply Poison which poisons your enemy and it works well when combined with Sever Artery (which bleeds foes). Another use of this secondary is if you desire to tame a pet to bring along for an adventure.
  • Dervish - If you prefer using a Scythe then this secondary is an obvious choice. However, due to the prime difference between energy regeneration between Dervish and Warrior, you'll want to check out skills that does not depend heavily on enchantments and also require less energy.
  • Paragon - Like Dervish, if you wish to use a Spear then Paragon is your answer. Other than that, Paragons have Chants/Shouts that complement well with a Warrior's.

One advice is that as your Primary Profession dictates that type of armor, energy pool/regeneration, runes that are available to you, you're pretty much still confined as playing a Warrior. You'll be using Warrior primarily and a secondary profession is simply there to offer you additional skills (outside your primary profession) to complement your role as a Warrior. It takes abit of trial and error in the beginning but you can go ahead and try different secondaries as you pleased (since you won't risk losing anything). Some secondaries may not be favored by the majority but this is more of a personal preference if you're a casual PvE player; some secondaries are better in certain areas too. I'd say try them all out and see which you feel sits best with you.

One last point is that most people will only make use of one Attribute from there secondary. So if you chose monk then your not going to put points in both healing and smiting.

The vast majority of buids utilize only one or two skills from there secondary, with a few exceptions.

Visit a priest of balthazar and read over all the skills, then try and pick ones that could compliment your primary war skills. Wich ever profession they lie in will be the one you should go with, keeping in mind that youll have to unlock or cap these skills and that could be a ways into the game.
